International Organisation for Mediation

Wikipedia short information

The International Organisation for Mediation (IOMed) is an intergovernmental body founded on 30 May 2025 in Hong Kong, China. Its objective is to facilitate the peaceful resolution of international conflicts through mediation. While the United Nations Charter recommends mediation as one of the first options for resolving international disputes, IOMed is the first intergovernmental legal organisation created specifically with mediation as its first option. This ensures that the purposes of the charter are fulfilled, as well as voluntary participation, equal decision-making and respect for all the concerns of all parties involved, with the aim of reaching mutually beneficial solutions.

OIMed has a status comparable to that of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) or the Permanent Court of Arbitration, as it acts as an intermediary in disputes between states, foreign investors or international commercial entities. However, it differs from these institutions in that it transcends the ‘winners’ and ‘losers’ mentality and promotes amicable resolutions and harmonious international relations.
